MEMBER EVENT: Quilts on Barns Road Adventure

The Racine Arts Council is hosting our 3rd “Quilts on Barns Road Adventure”, October 8th utilizing our driving tour map of 28 quilted barns. What better way to celebrate beautiful Racine County than to travel throughout rural and urban areas looking for quilted barns, driving down rustic roads, eating a caramel apple and enjoying the fall color!
Featured this year, a “Live” musical performance by folk singer/songwriter Mark Paffrath from 11:00am until 12:30pm. Mark has been charming audiences for longer than he can believe! From the concert and festival stage to your local bar and grill or coffeehouse, his thoughtfully chosen interpretations and well-crafted original music are as much about his history as where he would like to be. This “Wheat Matters” quilted barn, 34120 Spring Prairie Rd. is owned by Nancy Bassett a professional artisan bread baker. Take a driving break, bring your lawn chair, grab a summertime hotdog, chips and a root beer as you to enjoy some music and great friendship. Purchase a fresh baked loaf of artisan bread before you go!
Catch the next “Live” musical performance of folk singer/songwriter, Cynthia Chitko from 1:30am – 3:00pm. Cynthia is an American singer-songwriter who sings music from her soul. Her rich, clear voice draws you into heartfelt lyrics and flowing melodies. Cynthia creates an immediate connection with her audience and her songs have been described as purely honest, deeply emotional, yet truly hopeful.
The “Tulip Basket” quilted barn located at 6119 Heg Park Rd. Jean Jacobson, owner of this historic barn and outbuildings, will graciously share her experiences of rural living in Racine County.
Along the way enjoy corn, soybean and dairy farms, pumpkin patches with fall festivals, beautiful rivers and lakes, bike trails, urban shops, rustic roads, historical Frank Lloyd Wright buildings, and views of the Wind Point Lighthouse and beaches along Lake Michigan.
This driving tour lends itself to a two-day stay in Racine County, tour “East of the Interstate” barns one day and “West of the Interstate” barns the second day and see many other interesting attractions in Racine County. For your convenience, we have room blocks at the Country Inn & Suites and Comfort Suites in Mt. Pleasant, WI.
